Florida teachers told to remove books from classroom libraries or risk felony prosecution

Teachers in Manatee County, Florida, are being told to make their classroom libraries โ€” and any other "unvetted" book โ€” inaccessible to students, or risk felony prosecution. The new policy is part of an effort to comply with new laws and regulations championed by Governor Ron DeSantis (R). It is based on the premise, promoted by right-wing advocacy groups, that teachers and librarians are using books to "groom" students or indoctrinate them with leftist ideologies.

UPDATE: This is also happening in Duval County, FL.

A principal sent this note: "We are being asked to restrict classroom libraries...sadly you will need to remove student access...I will be the one with a felony if we are found in violation...I wish I was making this all up"

Keep in mind, teachers and principals can be charged with a THIRD DEGREE FELONY.

The Florida Department of Education just published a training reminding teachers of that.

You know what else is a third-degree felony in Florida?

Yesterday, a "Community Note" was appended to my tweet, suggesting my reporting was inaccurate.

In fact, it was the "Community Note" that was completely inaccurate

The note misinformed Twitter users and undermine a critical report on DeSantis' policies

@juddlegum reality has a left wing bias, as they say. Along with empathy and compassion having left wing bias. That is what Elon is complaining about.
