Egg prices are up 138%. We're calling BS on the excuses:

Avian flu? Avg flock size dropped 6% but no substantial drop in production.

Inflation? Cal-Maine's production costs were just 22% higher than in 2021.

Cal-Maine had a 10x increase in gross profits. This is price gouging.

I know that “anecdotes are not data”, but I found it interesting that the “family-owned pastured-chicken” brand of eggs I buy has not raised prices, and has remained available while big brands have leapfrogged their price, and had stock outs - at the same supermarkets. 🤔

The only difference is that every carton has an apology note that they’re having to cut fresh forage and bring it into the hen-barns - avian flu means not free-pasturing for now.🤷‍♀️

@rbreich These are some minor examples of why I don't believe in capitalism. It encourages, greed and cheating. It's a failed, soulless economic system that has brought the planet to its knees and human survival into question.

I live in a small city upstate NY. We buys local eggs at the farmers market or food coop. Prices have not changed and there is no shortage.

@rbreich so egg price increases are stopping teenagers from buying eggs to vandalize peoples’ houses.
That means gun & ammo price increases would do the same. AR15’s in Australia are $15k for a “clean” one per Sydney Morning Hearld. They don’t have anywhere near the amount of mass shootings as us. Yes there is a correlation
