The result: It's now worth 41% less today than it was in *1968*.

@rbreich every time I see this kind of information all I think about is Kristen Sinema giving her little thumbs down and curtsy, like she was John Friggin McCain. We had the chance to fix this and that bitch lied to us. I'm not going to lie, that woman angers me.
@azcoigreach @rbreich ... talk is cheap ... she's still sitting in the Senate ! ...
@FlorianSever @rbreich no one I know voted for her.
@azcoigreach ... the entire "party" system is some corrupt bullshit ...
@FlorianSever this 2 party system is bs. especially when "people" are actually all in the middle somewhere. there should be dozens of parties.
@azcoigreach ... one person, one vote ... the "representative" part of our system is out-dated, harmful, and only a shackle on the leg of "democracy" ...

@FlorianSever @azcoigreach

You lost me here. I don't want to spend 80% of my time researching and voting on things.

@SnerkRabbledauber @azcoigreach ... No? ... then you are welcome to whatever they dish-up to you ... some slaves must have surely missed plantation life; they didn't have to research and vote, either ...

@FlorianSever @azcoigreach

I'm just being realistic. On big issues a referendum makes sense, but those are only a tiny part of what a government does day by day.

If we all had to vote on everything it would be a matter of months before businesses pop up that you can subscribe to that do the researching and voting for you. You pick one you like, and if they screw you over you go ta different company. In other words, we are right back to representative government.

@SnerkRabbledauber @azcoigreach ... sloth is not compatible with democracy ... by definition, to have democracy is to cast your vote ... not to hire someone to do it for you ...

@FlorianSever @azcoigreach

Yes. And I do. And I do the research on the issues as well. I'm just not sure you understand how many decisions have to be made to run a country of 330M people.

We are spared almost all of the awful details. If we all had to vote on those then who is going to grow the food, treat the sick, build the homes, etc.? The economy would collapse.

We are way too big for all of us to vote on everything.

Sloth is not the problem. The problem is limited time.

@SnerkRabbledauber @azcoigreach ... Over-population is the actual problem ... It's tantamount hereditary enslavement ... 'capitalism' is next in line ...
@SnerkRabbledauber ... isn't this why we have 'leaders' ? ...

@SnerkRabbledauber @FlorianSever @azcoigreach I agree with this. Voting is mandatory here in Australia but it hasn't guaranteed us any better representation — our biggest advantage has really been our smaller population, making it harder for populist figures to achieve power.

What's needed in all governments is a powerful incorruptible group to oversee the party in power. That's supposed to be congress / parliament, but as we all know, they're all easily corrupted or compromised. The lack of a properly independent and empowered and motivated corruption body with some big teeth, is the real problem. All politicians need to fear for their careers and lives, if they can't simply do the right thing on principle alone — but it's a damn brave congress / parliament / government that would try to enable such a thing.

@mikestevens @SnerkRabbledauber @FlorianSever I think any well formed government should have a solid set of checks and balances. A good example of that in the US, is the Dept of Justice telling Congress to go F off after they got power just now and decided to make all these demands about investigations that aren't legal or constitutional. The Dept of Justice doesn't answer to Congress. Plus half those dude are under investigation. Justice is a slow burn most of the time.
@azcoigreach @mikestevens @SnerkRabbledauber ... A FBI CounterIntellegece bigshot was just arrested/indicted for being paid-off by Deripaska (Russian criminal/oligarch) ... He was supposed to be investigating Deripaska ... The DOJ is chock full of MAGA traitorcrooks ...
@azcoigreach ... 'personal gain' is the overarching nemisis of democracy ...
@FlorianSever @azcoigreach personal gain and blackmail, yeah. A lot of people in power do stupid shit that gets found out by bad actors, compromising them in the process.
@mikestevens ... they would be forced to oversee the butcher of their cash cow .. never happen ... Big money corrupts, biggly ...
@mikestevens ... a stringently vetted leader, ... subject to a guaranteed, scheduled referendum based on honesty and performance, ... with a death penalty imposed for losing the vote of confidence ...
@SnerkRabbledauber Nobody votes on everything. Pigs in senate vote on what the rest of us are gonna do. Why do you imagine everyone voting what everyone's gonna do, that would mean making a congress out of millions of people, such a irrational imaginary! Everyone's just gonna vote on what they themselves are gonna do together. That's simple. Would take basically no time since everybody already communicates on what they are doing in unison.
@azcoigreach @FlorianSever third parties tend to want to abolish the minimum wage. 😂
@Energetic_Nova ... are you certain ? ...

@FlorianSever

Most famously, libertarians. Gary Johnson.

@Energetic_Nova @FlorianSever I would argue that if there were no parties, those kind of issues would correct themselves.

@azcoigreach @FlorianSever

Washington state has no parties.

@azcoigreach @FlorianSever our elections are like… Everybody runs on the same ticket, they can state a party preference, but no party formally exists on the ballot except for president, The top two get the nomination.

@azcoigreach @FlorianSever

There can be two “prefers republican” or two “prefers democrat”

Never once has third-party made it to the top two.

@azcoigreach @FlorianSever

at least when it comes to national positions anyway.

I don’t know why people think the third party thing is viable even in a no-party system. Brian Baird tried for years here to make 3rd party happen.

@Energetic_Nova @azcoigreach ... if there were no "parties", the people who would have been "third party" would have gained an equal power of their vote ... this is impossible with a "party system" ... even a one-party system
@Energetic_Nova ... one small step in the right direction ... why include "party preference" ? ...

@FlorianSever

Feels like what you want is people accidentally voting republican.

@FlorianSever

Look up Joe Kent to know who ran “prefers the republican party” in my district.

@Energetic_Nova ... nope ... abolish "partyism" ... 1:1 voting ... In the modern age, why do we need "representatives" to cast crucial votes for us ? ...

@FlorianSever

So you expect American public to vote on every provision in the budget?

@Energetic_Nova ... no, ... but u der "1:1" you would have legitimately-elected leaders to do that, and if not, they could be legitimately- bounced by the voting public
@Energetic_Nova @azcoigreach @FlorianSever tendency in an unhealthy system in a country with documented experimental suburbiculture is not the same as what will happen in a healthier three party system with a commons and walkable cities where people are riding bicycles when they can, where hyperindividualism is something humanity is no longer forced into.

@azcoigreach @FlorianSever

The first step is to switch to some form of Ranked Choice Voting. Until we have that, 3rd parties are a waste of time because it is foolish to vote for one.

@FlorianSever @azcoigreach

Most of the founding fathers agreed with that opinion. "Factions" as they called them were a great evil and threat to democracy.

@FlorianSever @rbreich I've sent dozens on letters to her office about her BS. I'm sure tons of others have. That's why she changed parties.
@azcoigreach @rbreich ... I don't need to be convinced ... her "constituency" does ...
@FlorianSever @rbreich my point. Her constituency (me) told her to kick rock. She's not getting re-elected, especially on a 3rd party ticket.
@azcoigreach @rbreich ... keep hope alive ...
@FlorianSever @rbreich as my mantra would dictate - "Livin' the Dream"
@azcoigreach ... shout, march, act,
VOTE ! ...
@FlorianSever and don't forget to send them constant letters letting them know they suck. but be nice about it.
@FlorianSever @azcoigreach @rbreich Well that's the Senate for you. She was elected in 2018 so she isn't up for re-election until 2024.
@rbreich ... if they were allowed to, capitalist pigs would insist on mandatory enslavement ... Oh, wait! ... they already did that ...

@rbreich but but but if you increase minimum wage, rampant inflation will take hold. What inflation is already rampant? Oh well too many people are employed so lets fire them to get it under control but don't stop buying more of our crap. What so many people trying to collect unemployment benefits? They are just lazy, force them to back to work.

How was this sort of illogical system ever allowed to become the primary economic system, that only benefits corporations, elites & their stooges?

@rbreich It should be indexed so inflation so that it can't be used as a bargaining chip every 2 decades... (And the top tax rate should be indexed to the number of people paid minimum wage...)
@rbreich I totally disagree with the $15/hour minimum wage! It should be $40/hour. "The Establishment" may say they don't like it but that's a red herring to keep the debate at &15/hour.
