Wow. I've mostly restored my communication methods since the theft of my phone yesterday. I located a cell repair shop that had the appropriate SIM tray for my old phone. The phone has a cracked screen and cracked camera lens and the battery begins to die VERY rapidly! I'm going to want to upgrade before long but I need a little while to regroup, financially. In the middle of updating and adding all of the essential apps, I managed to forget my Google password, recently updated and unsaved.
@EllenInEdmonton
So glad you restored so much, how awful that your phone was stolen. You lose access to so much, it's as if you lose a piece of yourself for a bit. At least that's how I felt when I lost a phone some years back. Horrible.
I hope you could sort the forgotten password. Strange that it takes six hours.
Sending you warm hugs!
@Giagia Thanks so much! The loss of my phone really absorbed a lot of time and attention last week. All of my frequently-used passwords have been restored. My old phones are a lot less than ideal but they'll do for a couple of months before I have the resources to get a new phone. I'd really come to love the features of the newer model! Last I saw on #FindyMy was that my phone was headed to another province.
@EllenInEdmonton
Good thing that your own phone still works even if not ideal. I'd miss the newer features a lot too. I'm loathe to replace models, my own phone isn't quite obsolete yet but I don't know that it could do the majority of stuff I want to use it for. I couldn't afford a new one straight away either.
With the stolen phone being so far already, I suppose this could be professional thieves. You lost it at the library? Maybe they could watch out so it doesn't happen to others?
@Giagia I think that the library staff are very alert to potential thieves and there are a lot of security guards. The library functions as the city’s daytime shelter where unhoused folks are generally focussed on their own survival. One fellow popped in to check out the Makerspace and he expressed a lot of interest in the ribbon skirt I was making. I showed him what I was doing and he had ample access to my belongings. Whoever took it probably sold it to a fence ASAP.
@EllenInEdmonton
Sounds like a bigger library, I was probably thinking of a small branch library. Such a horrible thing that you lost your phone, so frustrating.
You're making a ribbon skirt! That sounds lovely. I hope this experience with the phone didn't put you off from your project. All the best for progress with it!
@Giagia
I love the space there for getting things done. Excellent setup for a cutting table, which was unfortunately where I was when the theft took place. I'm quite excited about the #RibbonSkirt and I'll return to the library to work on it tomorrow. There is a #RoundDance this Saturday and I'd like to have it ready to wear. Learning lots from the project.
