I honestly really disagree with you about Vector 2022. I think there was so little change for one reason only: old Vector was just really good, with one drawback - it was super clear that it was designed in 2010.
The redisgn focused on doing that one thing, and it did it well. Yes, it took about 3 years of development, although the beta version was released in 2021, something you might have known as a French speaker (FR wiki was one of the testers).

All in all, this version brings the great Vector skin in line with modern design, and in line with the design of the Wikipedia app (which has been out for a while now).
As a quite extreme power user myself I indeed do not use it as you mentioned (although I might in the future), simply because it breaks my deep-wired muscle memory. But for everyone else - I think this new design is much better.
