Night and the stars.
@neilhimself Is that milky way photo from a phone camera like your earlier ones? Amazing what they can do today.
@neilhimself damn, that is amazing 😍
@neilhimself those two bright stars at the lower middle are the two 'pointers'. A line drawn between them can be extended up to the southern cross. The brighter of the two pointers is alpha centauri, the sun's closest solar neighbour.
@spmatich @neilhimself and if you go horizontally left from the upper pointer about the times the distance between them, there's a bright blob. That's Omega Centauri, a globular cluster with several million stars that looks absolutely stunning through a small telescope.
@Bern @neilhimself I was wondering if anyone would pick that one out :)
@Bern @neilhimself there is so much in that region of sky. The galactic center of the milky way, Eta Carinae and some one else already pointed out the coal sack.
@neilhimself beautiful!! Just makes you wonder and realize how small we truly are
@neilhimself “To infinity and beyond…”
@neilhimself so much envy. I've never seen the milky way.

@neilhimself looks like a plucked chicken with a hole in it's tummy
@neilhimself makes me long for a less populated/ light polluted country. The universe is so very beautiful yet so few get to appreciate it's awesome immensenes
@neilhimself looks like the fountain of all human life. You know what I’m talking about.
@neilhimself Good morning, now! and good night to some of us, too. It's marvelous that we can connect laterally around the globe, so effortlessly now. Thanks for continuing to connect with your readers after so many years, and thanks to the readers for speaking up and out as merrily we go along.
@neilhimself Lovely. I need to get away from the light pollution, so I can try my hand.
@neilhimself what a beautiful sight! I saw the Milky Way as I stood on a hill in New Zealand, it was a heavenly sight.
@neilhimself Here's one I took at our lake place (NW Maine - medium dark sky)
@neilhimself Your photos just keep getting better!
@neilhimself (to the cadence of “USA! USA!”): MILKY WAY! MILKY WAY!
@neilhimself - Nicely done. Great pic.
@neilhimself I love your night sky photos, they always make feel like your books do, that the world is deeper and darker and more full of awe than I imagined.
@neilhimself Fabulous picture. Like diving into the universe.
@[email protected] dark patch of dust below the Southern Cross is variously known both as the 'coal sack', and the head of Gawarrgay, the dark emu (whose full body follows the milky way down toward Sagittarius... wonderful mix of terms there!)
@neilhimself
And if you take a line perpendicular to the pointers and another through the long axis of the southern cross, where they intersect is approximately the south celestial pole.
@neilhimself this picture of sky is amazing! We are so little in this universe, but we can gaze at stars. This photo spreads a sense of peace and greatness, and love. I'm grateful for this picture. ⭐🪐
