Why is all of the courseware on the market so, so bad 😭
@alexhillman what are the biggest gaps for you?

@briancasel functionally, nobody does student progress tracking in any way that is useful (course completion is a worthless metric). Nobody who builds these tools actually teaches and it's obvious.

But beyond that, the entire experience are just painful for students and instructors. Extra clicks everywhere. Confusing navigation. Copycat layout (sidebar of lessons). Barely more than a janky CMS. The whole category is nothing but careless, clueless software.

@briancasel we've been on Teachable since 2015 and it just keeps getting worse, and then without warning they *doubled* our prices. 🤪
@alexhillman What kind of student progress tracking is useful, in your opinion? How should lesson progression work, in your opinion?

@aurooba
A few that would be VERY high value but I've never seen implemented:

- show me students who start but get stuck (and where) so we can analyze curriculum for roadblocks

- show me students who were inactive but started again so we can be proactive about support

- show me students who are jumping around in lessons (and in what order) instead of just assuming people follow the linear path so we can develop alt learning paths

- show me lessons that get rewatched

@alexhillman @aurooba interesting — we’re moving ZipMessage (rebrand coming soon) into this space with a specific focus on coaches.

Your 3rd bullet rings true in all my research: Coaches & students rarely use a linear path. Content is more like a Library to pull from with a personalized mix of template content and async messaging/coaching.

We’ve started rolling this out, more coming this quarter :)
