So I missed out on a new position at work because, according to feedback from the interview panel , I hadn't shown enough "strategic vision". Well that's hardly surprising; I've always been a bottom-up worker, leading by example, and I've never had a vision: hallucinatory, religious, or strategic, in my life.

@amca01 do you understand why customers use your company's products/services and how to align people and resources to delight customers? If so, you have "strategic vision." Of course, what they probably meant was you don't kowtow to higher ups who have no strategic vision!
@eduity This was an academic and governance position at a university - a role which I've been performing with no complaints for some years. I probably have a better idea of what our "customers" (students) want or need than our marketing department. But it's all about the brand and the vision. As far as I can tell, all our strategic visions, mission statements etc, for the past 30 years, have been variations on "We're gunna be the BEST! Hell yeah!".
