Right, it's like asking why your refrigerator doesn't require the key to your front door.
@frankie

@robojoe

Right, and why do other OSs ask for that permission? They don't get the refrigerator logic?

@oguzhanaydin

@frankie
If "other OSes" means iOS, then I suspect it's because it's easy to implement since the only way to install an app is via their store.

Does your PC ask for a password to install an application?
@oguzhanaydin

@robojoe
Linux does.

My work PC does.

@oguzhanaydin

@frankie
Linux distros only ask if you're installing outside user space. (You're not installing outside user space on Android) Your work PC is likely locked down. I'm pretty sure you can lock down your android phone too, if you want. I haven't used windows in a while but I don't recall it ever demanding a password for installing application
@oguzhanaydin

@robojoe

This Manjaro guy asks for a password all the time, so I guess, on here, it's installing everything outside the user space?

@oguzhanaydin

@frankie
What does manjaro use? Pacman? Yeah those are installing apps to the system, via root. (Sudo).
