"1 in 3 #Maryland #foster #children are being given psychotropic #medications, often without a documented #psychiatric #diagnosis, according to the #ACLU lawsuit filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for Maryland. This is compared to about 8% of Medicaid-eligible children nationwide who are not in foster care."

Aside from health risks of docs prescribing meds off-label to kids, let's talk about the #education and #PrisonPipeline implications of this atrocity. 1/2

When kids are tapered off one psychotropic drug only to be replaced with another, there can be huge mood and behavior issues. #Schools aren't notified during this 2-6wk period, so #disciplinary issues are attributed to the kid being defiant. This can result in #restraint, seclusion, & even #student #arrest. #Foster parents can be manipulated to agree to more restrictive school placements, if there's an #IEP. This just further damages the child's ability to receive an #education. /2 #edutooter
@alessa_ed I've been saying this for years. Happens also in TX. The whole 'pro-life' push is cover for the right wanting to find ways to fill prisons with former foster children. They don't care abt babies after they're born, esp if they're POC. They become future prison labor. It's the new slavery.
@alessa_ed and guess what these new prisoners can't do in many of these states? Vote.
