The Abandoned Norwich State Hospital (Preston, CT) | Abandoned America

Originally built in 1904, Norwich State Hospital consisted of one building, but rapidly grew to accomodate the criminally insane, tuberculosis patients, the elderly, and drug abusers. It closed in 1996 and has been abandoned since.

@AbandonedAmerica Same vibe...
@deheems can totally see that

@AbandonedAmerica It's in France, built around 1900, abandoned in 1984. We started renovation in 2021.

This is how the kitchen was left behind.

@deheems @AbandonedAmerica Lovely! Do you have more pictures of the house?
@deheems @AbandonedAmerica It's amazing - I love these old houses with so much charm in them! Look at the tiles of the floor! And the nice long corridor!
@nico @AbandonedAmerica The front door will completely be made exactly like the original one by a carpenter who also made this one. Can't wait to see what it's going to be like.
@deheems @AbandonedAmerica Wow...these doors... I still have a bill somewhere for fixing similar front doors that was around 18'000 CHF, not for new doors, just for fixing, painting, insulating. Btw, also very lovely house number sign. Are you already living in the building?
@nico @AbandonedAmerica Partly, we live and work in the Netherlands, would love to when the kids are grown up.
@deheems those tiles ♥️
@coldclimate Especially for you: The four different tiles in the hall, kitchen and scullery.
@deheems @coldclimate amazing - so glad you're going to restore this amazing place
@deheems @coldclimate Ooh! That’s an old technique where the clay is different colors & they push the pieces together, or slice off from a larger clay log where the patterns were arranged. Not colored glazes. I forget the technical term.
Of course nobody make tiles like this anymore.
