MAGA radicals are refusing to raise the debt ceiling unless Biden agrees to devastating cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
They don't actually care about the debt.
They're willing to drive the economy off a cliff in order to chip away at our most vital social programs.
@rbreich What the Republicans want to do isn't merely "chip away" at Social Security and Medicare. Their ultimate goal is to abolish both programs.
In the meantime, their demanded deep cuts would mean the difference between food or privation for seniors, between shelter and homelessness, and quite literally between life and death for some due to lack of healthcare.
And for Republicans, the savage cruelty is entirely the point.

I am generation X, and I have known since the Reagan years that the goal of the republican party is to make sure that I work, until I fall into a grave, and that there will not be Social Security for me, despite them taking huge chunks out of my pay since I got my first job (paying taxes) at the age of 14.
