2023 Honda Civic Type R - ~125 Miles, 6-Speed Manual, Sonic Gray Pearl, Unmodified

This 2023 Honda Civic Type R is for sale on Cars & Bids! Auction ends January 19 2023.

@Mark
I predict the last-minute bidding frenzy will take it over the top. But just barely
@crswa @Mark I'm probably wrong, but I think enthusiast are tired of the huge markups. Of course the theory is that there is an infinite supply of rich people for whom $20k means very little but maybe they are back to spending their money of Fabergé eggs or something.
@dan @crswa often there is a big rush from people with high willingness to pay to be among the first to have things and then as supply increases it puts downward pressure on prices. Toyota will be making 8k of these a year. This car will be like getting a Supra or golf R. Plenty of dealerships will be selling at or close to MSRP.
@Mark @dan
Toyota is making Hondas now? Cool! 😂
Seriously, I think that's a low enough production run that all of those will be spoken for before they touch the ground. FOMO is a hell of a drug and someone's going to decide that this is their best chance to get an early one. As my wife frequently reminds me, though, I have been wrong in the past...
@Mark @dan
Well, my credibility as a car auction prognosticator just took a big hit. I think I'll stick to my day job
@crswa @dan someone has to be a contrarian

@Mark under 20 minutes left now, and still stuck on $48,500. 🤔

When it gets to the last minute of the auction, any new bid resets the clock for another minute, until nobody places a new bid before that minute expires. That’s when I would expect any renewed action to happen. That’s how I’d be bidding if it were me. 🤷‍♂️

Oddly, a lot of comments on the auction are being hidden as “flagged”, but they don’t seem especially inappropriate.

@Mark less than 5 minutes left. I wonder if it's gonna start heating up?
@Mark No Sale
@sumo hopefully this means these cars will sell at or close to MSRP in the near future.
@Mark @sumo I like how, in his comments, Doug is “thrilled” to have folks flipping new cars on his site…🙄
@CFBrand3rd @Mark Did I also see a comment on the listing after the auction was over that 'the market has spoken'? Remember, even the PT Cruiser had market adjustments the first year it came out.

@sumo @Mark What I recall of that era, at least in our area (Central Pennsylvania), was more of the “Required Dealer Installed Options” game; things like a $5 roll of vinyl pinstripes, applied by the $4.50/hr kid in the wash bay, listed at $199.95, $499.95 undercoating & such. Local dealers with “hot” new models, particularly the Honda/Toyota/VW stores, were big on this.

But I don’t recall any of this brazen “Market Adjustment” crap, and I worked at dealerships all through the ‘90s & aughts…🤷‍♂️
