Who's going to provide oversight of these fascist traitors?

H/t: Aaron Rupar #House #politics #GOP

@GottaLaff Ranking Member, Jamie Raskin is a good bet to provide strong counterpoint, both during committee hearings and immediately afterward.
@JamesWNeal He always is superb, but without power, all he's got is his counterpoint. It's up to us.
@GottaLaff I don't entirelly agree. Raskin being on the committee means he'll know what they know, which means for perhaps the first time, when they spout off, somebody's going to hammer them in real time, try to get them to explain their b.s. Most of them have never been held accountable by anyone before. Raskin will provide the ammunition & that's where we come in, don't you think?
@JamesWNeal I do, but practically speaking, that's all he can do, he can't stop the constant 24/7 news cycle regurgitating fascist sound bites, nor can he stop the hearings and the damage they'll do.
@GottaLaff I understand the concern, but I'm just not one who focuses on people who grab the mic & yell b.s. It's true they'll have more credibility with some because of their positions, & I doubt they'll suddenly decide they want to hit any news shows that won't simply let them amplify their crap, but they're playing in the big leagues now, which means people who never got how nuts they are will be getting a strong dose. Not good for them, I think.
@JamesWNeal I agree with all of that. But while your first point that Raskin's counterpoint will be effective, I don't think it'll be effective ENOUGH. Yes, GOP will show themselves, yes, people will see how nuts they are, but so much damage will have been done during the process (economic, psychological, etc.) that I don't think it's as big a win as maybe you're saying?
@GottaLaff I just don't think the far right's got the kind of traction they think they do and the more the rest of the country hears them in their own words, the less I think most will like it. Sure, they steamrolled McCarthy and the result's going to most likely be such a shitshow ppl will see nothing getting done, possible fistfights, etc. It's not parliment. There's a reason GOP's already fielding people more moderate (a relative term)
