The Poughkeepsie Tapes is a #mockumentary where investigators find hundreds of vhs tapes chronicling the work (torture, murder, dismemberment) of a local, illusive serial killer. Not just that but video of his failed efforts a potential victims that never were. It’s very eerie and feels a little to real. I posted clips on IG & TT and people kept asking if it was fiction. #horror #film #cinemastodon #serialkiller #truecrime #fiction
@Macabre_ish #ThePoughkeepsieTapes is so fucking wild! Been a few years since I’ve watched it, but I enjoyed it. I’m also the weirdo that enjoyed the #AugustUnderground trilogy.
@lunchb0x_b I’m just about to pull that trilogy out 😁
@Macabre_ish I honestly loved it. A lot of people feel like it’s just too much, and I definitely get that, but it’s just right up my alley.
@lunchb0x_b I agree. I enjoy quite a bit that people find too extreme. I don’t post too much of that because people start getting weird and aggressive about it.
@Macabre_ish Did you also watch #ASerbianFilm? That’s one I’m not sure I could stand to watch again, but I can at least admit that it does what it sets out to do.
@lunchb0x_b I did indeed. That’s a rough watch!
@Macabre_ish a couple years back, I had a list of stuff like that I wanted to watch. Got through a few of them, but that one halted things and I didn’t watch the rest of my list. I’m not sure what all I had on it, but I know Salo was one of them I didn’t get to. August Underground was so on that list. Those and the damn French movie with the flaying scene I can never remember the name of.
@lunchb0x_b Was it Martyrs? I have Salo on laserdisc! I understand, you gotta take a break from these movies.
@Macabre_ish Yeah, Martyers is it! I watched the original and it was alright. Didn’t watch the remake though. I heard it was kinda bad.
@lunchb0x_b Yeah the remake was really unnecessary.
@Macabre_ish I may make my way back around to Salo eventually. I wish I could remember what else I had on the list. You have any recommendations?
@lunchb0x_b Absolutely! Just to name a few…Audition, Guinea Pig series, The Seasoning House, Cannibal Holocaust, Bone Tomahawk, Green Inferno, American Mary…
@Macabre_ish I’ve seen all of those except The Seasoning House, American Mary and the Guinea Pig series. American Mary is the Soska Sisters, right? I’ve heard mixed reviews on that one. I heard the Guinea Pig series can be pretty rough, but I’d like to see them. Not sure where to watch them though. Not heard of The Seasoning House. Cannibal Holocaust, I’ve seen a few times. It’s not a great movie, but I really enjoy Cannibal stuff. Love The Green Inferno. Audition is awesome!
@lunchb0x_b Yes, American Mary is by the Soskas! I really like it, even if the ending did piss me off. I know I have others but I need to peruse and just make and keep a list. Oh and May is very good!
@lunchb0x_b Oh and Victim! Vile, Anarchy Parlor, The Skin I Live In, Pet, The Human Centipede, Autopsy…
@Macabre_ish I’ve at least heard of The Human Centipede, but never watched it. Seemed more gross than intriguing to me. 🀣 I’ve not heard of any of the others.
@lunchb0x_b Oh, not doubt it’s gross but the first two Centipedes really express a depravity that is just disturbing and bleak. The 3rd is a totally different tone. The ridiculous meter is really turned up on that one, it’s too bright and wacky for me.
@Macabre_ish I’ve definitely been a bit curious about them, because, like all this stuff, you either love it or hate it. Just never pulled the trigger on them. I may check out the first one. My wife isn’t into the extreme horror stuff, so I don’t watch it a whole lot, but she won’t be home next weekend, so I may have to find some good stuff to watch.
@lunchb0x_b I hear that! It took me a long time to watch the first one and then I watched the second one and it is much more disturbing than the first. I understand, I watch the dark stuff when my S.O. isn’t around too. A lot of this stuff is not for the casual viewer. πŸ˜…
@Macabre_ish Definitely not! I made my wife read the Wikipedia on A Serbian Film and afterwards all she could say is β€œWhy the fuck did you make me read that?” She can watch all this true crime stuff, but can’t handle the fake stuff. 🀣
@lunchb0x_b That’s so funny! And true. True crime fans can’t not stomach it, which is actually interesting. I expected them to be able to handle it better but nope. πŸ˜†
@Macabre_ish Right? Makes no sense to me! I enjoy both genres, myself. She thinks a lot of the movies I watch are dumb too. I’m pretty sure she’s got a list of awful stuff I’ve made her watch, which is fair, because I’ve made her watch some pretty bad stuff. 🀣 I believe Thankskilling, Rubber and Hausu are her go-to examples. She can never remember Blood Freak though. Don’t blame her there. Who would want to? 🀣
@lunchb0x_b Thankskilling is hilarious and a second watch for Rubber, really brought me around. I really like that movie!!
@Macabre_ish I really liked it too. She thinks it’s so dumb though. Only person I know who’s seen it and didn’t like it. 🀣
@lunchb0x_b How can you not like a psionic tire named Robert?!! 🀣 That movie is low kew genius.
@Macabre_ish I guess she just doesn’t get it. I mean, sometimes a tire just needs to pop heads instead of itself. What’s not to love?!
@lunchb0x_b Oh and also make sure you watch the 2010 Victim with Stephen Weigand. I didn’t realize how many Victim movies there were.
