Age robs us of the ability to choose areas to become expert it. It's still possible, but so much harder, and we are so much more aware of the opportunity costs.
@Flux Nah. Our slightly diminished capacity to just study bullshit for endless hours is more than made up for by our accumulated knowledge of which bits are a waste of time.
@Flux Oh well sure - I started playing keyboards a few months ago and I still suck. I've been racing cars for 5 years and my progress is glacial compared to an 8-year-old in a gokart. You have to leverage your synergies!
@Flux if we’re lucky, maybe it also grants us the wisdom to accept that it can be okay to be an amateur provided we take satisfaction in the learning and the doing. Less so if you’re after a career change, but certainly can be true for hobbies.
