The really nice waterfront ice skating rink has announced they will permanently close.

Sucks.

Here's a video I shot from just under a year ago. I recall it was about -10c or so but it was clear and sunny and we got treated to an amazing sunset.

I'll miss that spot.

@jesuschris booo. The city needs more recreational skating rinks, not less.
@jesuschris Wait, I think I just heard someone else mention this as well. What's the story behind its removal? I have my guesses, but I hope there's a good reason behind this move at least.
@baldwin the rink in the video was actually a makeshift rink for last winter, the OG one behind the performance stage that was a pond in the summer was closed down last year for repairs. I heard it was the under-ice refrigeration system. I suspect it all fell victim to classic Canadian mediocrity and cheapness. We generally don't like to pay to maintain things. But that's just my guess. I have no insider knowledge.
