@jctorres @jfslicer I’d caution against saying churches or pastors who don’t bless same sex marriages are “harming” gay people.
A) That argument assumes that homosexuality is intended by God and is good (the Bible clearly states the opposite). As a result of the Fall homosexuality needs to be treated w/ compassion, but can’t be blessed.
B) I’ve see this argument used as a way to attempt to bully people who hold the traditional view into silence or changing their stance.
@jctorres @jfslicer reason B above was one of the reasons I left my former denomination (the Reformed Church in America).
@RevEricBurrowsStone @jctorres @jfslicer The Bible doesn't say anything about homosexuality. Homosexuality did not exist before modernity.
@jctorres @RevEricBurrowsStone @henryjwallis that’s not quite true. The lack of the word existing doesn’t mean the topic isn’t covered. “Don’t lie with a man as one does with a woman” seems to be a pretty clear statement.

@jctorres @jfslicer @henryjwallis H. Wallis, I would strongly disagree. There is sufficient biblical and extra-biblical documentation to prove the opposite.

Also worth noting is the fact that your statement is hermeneutically grounded in modern scholars revisionist readings of the Bible. They claim that the Bible is not saying what we think it is saying. But that runs against 1000's of years of contrary interpretation; both Jewish and Christian. And I don't think their claims are convincing.
