Republicans have nothing of substance to talk about, so they're pretending that President Biden is going to break down your door and haul away your gas stove. Maybe he's hooking up a trailer to his Corvette?

Look at all of these states that have made sure that individual cities can't pass climate-friendly legislation to prevent gas stoves in new construction. Not taking anything away – if you want to move into an apartment with a gas range, you pick an apartment built before 2019 or 2027.

(The graphic is from 2022. Only the states that are red on this map have passed laws preventing gas bans. Michigan's legislation didn't pass and former Pennsylvania Gov. Wolf vetoed that state's bill.)

I like gas cooking too. I shrugged when I found the right condo and it was electric, not gas. Now that I've learned about the climate and health issues of gas, I'm glad I have electric.

Will There Be a Gas Stove Ban? Here's What to Know

Research shows that natural gas stoves produce dangerous levels of air pollutants.

@MariaHill

As a super liberal who is surrounded by super liberals, not one time has anyone ever identified gas stoves as our next hill to do battle.
We’re all still caught up with disenfranchised voters and the right to our bodily privacy etc.

@MJ @MariaHill
Did most of the people replying to you decide to take the weekend off from reading comprehension, MJ?!
Here you are talking about the important things we should be focusing on, and all most of them seem to be replying with is 'but mah gas stove!'

Fuck the gas stoves. I don't care what I'm cooking on until we get equal voting rights for all and bodily autonomy.

*Edited to acknowledge that there were a few replies that stayed on topic.

@AgentCarter_SSR @MariaHill @MJ The “hippy kooks” one is really bad.

The point of Maria’s post and MJ’s reply, as I’ve talked to both, is that NOBODY is coming to take your damn gas stove, not that liberals are overreaching.

@TonyStark

Eric Swalwell was on with Mehdi Hasan last night. He said, "If I look a little sore, it's because I spent the afternoon removing gas stoves from all the Republicans on my block."

That's what a farce this is. Your member of Congress provides many constituent services. Removing your gas stoves is not one of them, let alone by force.

What the government, via the Inflation Reduction Act passed by the Democratic 177th Congress, will provide you with is up to $840 in tax rebates for switching from a gas stove to an electric one, including induction, and up to $500 to cover the costs of converting from natural gas or propane to electric. There are additional rebates for switching other appliances too.

What the Inflation Reduction Act Could Mean for Your Next Appliance Purchase

Consumer Reports explains you how you might qualify for the electric appliance rebates included in the Inflation Reduction Act.

Is that an ongoing tax break, to cover that electricity costs around four times as much as gas, or is it just to help with the capital cost?

@TimWardCam

Tax rebate on your purchase of an appliance.

Take it up with your legislators, not me, if you want more breaks for switching. You're not going to get it from this Congress. They're more likely to give tax breaks to people who want to burn as many fossil fuels as possible.

@TonyStark @AgentCarter_SSR @MJ

@MariaHill @TonyStark @AgentCarter_SSR @MJ Just looking at the economics here.

In the UK for example, heat pumps are being promoted, but after the capital cost you're looking at electricity at four times the price of gas for an efficiency of only three times - the numbers just don't add up for ordinary people. So ... fork out a large capital sum in order to have higher ongoing costs? - not an easy sell.
