In Science Magazine today, peer-reviewed research showed Exxon scientists predicted global warming with incredible accuracy as early as 1977.

Also #ExxonKnew the ‘carbon budget’ for holding warming below 2°C.

They chose to deliberately spread disinformation and climate denial to continue making massive profits instead of inform the public of the danger.

This should make the lawsuits easier.

@MeanwhileinCanada As long as a corporations’ fiduciary responsibility is to make money for shareholders, CEOs primary incentive will be to act based solely on profit (and their bonuses) and not on what is good for their community, country or the planet as a whole.
@MeanwhileinCanada
What’s the civil penalty for (checks notes) intentionally deceiving the public into destroying the planet for humans?
@MeanwhileinCanada Sadly not even surprising. And will most likely be buried under the next big clickbait story 😒 Until there's a fundamental change money will continue to rule over the betterment of people 🤬

.@MeanwhileinCanada

They knew all along. The podcast Drilled is an amazing journey through the years they knew, built an internal group to explore low-carbon energy, and then disbanded it and decided it was better to undermine science instead.

@MeanwhileinCanada I'm pinching this for me'mum. 😊
@MeanwhileinCanada I've seen it before, but it always brings a sad grin to my face. It sums up what's happening too well.
@MeanwhileinCanada
This is exactly what the BIG Tobacco company did with cigarette findings....they've known for DECADES that they caused lung cancer, but hid the findings to make a HUGE PROFIT for their company.
They, too, believe they are above the law.
@MeanwhileinCanada I have been around this general issue since the late 1970s. The fact that data and studies were suppressed and corporations engaged in coordinated manipulation of the media and governments is old news. These horrible corporate practices have not stopped. Less hand ringing and more use of the ballot box and our collective economic power is the only thing that will make a difference. Assholes that don't care about those around them are not going to magically change.
@MeanwhileinCanada And decision-makers can use the Liability Roadmap to hold Big Polluters liable: https://liabilityroadmap.org #ClimateJustice #ClimateCrisis #PollutersPay #ExxonKnew
Liability Roadmap

Polluters should be held liable—and pay for the climate damage they cause. This roadmap shows decision-makers and movements how to use a variety of tools—at the local, national, and global levels—to hold them liable.

Liability Roadmap
@MeanwhileinCanada pretty much, it’s very painful to watch.
