Twitter API appears to be down, breaking Tweetbot and third-party clients

Twitter clients are broken left and right as the API unexpectedly went down on January 11, even bringing down Tweetbot.

@9to5Mac I have no idea what this means #old
@MikeyMcFilms @9to5Mac It either means that Twitter is starting to kill off third-party apps or no one's at the wheel at Twitter to address token issues. We'll see soon.
@spsheridan @9to5Mac
No one is at the wheel
Half my notifications show up in “mentions” but not in “all”
@MikeyMcFilms @9to5Mac Try using twitter.com - works fine for me, just not third-party apps like Tweetbot or Twitterific. How about you?
@spsheridan @9to5Mac Twitter is fine except for missing notifications in “all”
@MikeyMcFilms @9to5Mac Nothing to do with being old. APIs are the rules of how everything that isn't Twitter can use Twitter. So if the API is failing, no 3rd party clients.
@MikeyMcFilms @9to5Mac Twitter is not allowing anyone with anything other than the corporation's own app to access the website. They want full control of what those trapped on the website (via smartphone, anyway - web access appears to be unaffected) see, do, and post.
