I can't help but cringe a little when someone says "I want a kitten!" Yeah, I know what they mean but still - kittens are only kittens for the blink of an eye. Only get a kitten if you want a CAT with all the joys and responsibilities that entails for 12-18+ years.
@CatsOfYore Though we've one cat who's 10 years old who still acts like a kitten.
@CatsOfYore I've actually never had a kitten and don't want one. I only adopt #SeniorCats they really are the best! They have provided me years of joy and love, and not having to deal with kitten energy is a big plus.
@CatsOfYore For real; cats are a commitment.
@CatsOfYore ...and while the kitten adapts to the litter box and after about 12 of those years no longer is interested in using it, you have an abundance of cat sh*t to deal with.

@CatsOfYore

If my cat wasn't so ding-dang jealous of everyone, I'd consider fostering a Senior, at least. Though I love kittens, it'd be a huge deal to try and kitten-proof our place. A Senior would be more mellow and less prone to hourly mayhem. :D

@CatsOfYore Ogden Nash poem: The only problem with a kitten is that it soon turns into a cat
@CatsOfYore Reminds me if people who want "a baby".
@CatsOfYore I adopted the cutest kitten and she grew up to be gorgeous

@CatsOfYore Over the last 3 and a half decades lots of cats have lived with me. Some from a shelter, some from a breeder, kittens, adults and seniors.
And while kittens are so so cute, they’re also exhausting. And while they were small, I found myself waiting for them to grow up - how will they look when they’re fully grown? What will their adult character be? Will they still do thing A? How large will they get OMG?!

I really enjoy kittens, but I actually prefer adult cats.

@CatsOfYore At the moment I have 3 second-hand Maine Coons, one from his previous owner, two from the shelter, all acquired 3 years ago, and now 8, 9, and 10 years old. 😻😻😻

@CatsOfYore I worked at a shelter and firmly believe kittens are overrated. Give me an adult cat any day. The only two I adopted as kittens were ones I fostered as teenies.

@modgalfri @CatsOfYore We love fostering kittens. They’re cute & fun, and then they leave.

Out adult cats are the ones who steal our hearts and stay forever.
