We investigated Twitter use by major news organizations in the Los Angeles media market.

Nonprofit newsrooms and a regional newspaper (the Los Angeles Times) used replies to engage in reciprocal exchanges with audiences, but broadcasters used retweets, hashtags, and mentions for branding.
