“Jesus must be a cryptid! He’s a mystery!”

-my 7-year old, this morning.

Context:

I came from a Catholic family but been agnostic since college & married to another agnostically raised spouse. We are raising our kid that way too.

The past year he’s been introduced to the concept of God/gods, churches/temples/mosques, and Jesus — through school, cousins, and friends. At home we discuss how different folks from different places and backgrounds may have different gods and places/activities that are sacred to them. He’s been curious about Jesus because of Christmas.

I often tell him that the identity of God/gods is a mystery. While some folks have claimed to have seen them in different ways and forms, a lot of people have not really seen them but continue to believe in them.

And being obsessed with anything folklore, myths, creatures, and cryptids — he now concludes Jesus may be a “cryptid”
