Congressional campaigns are required to file regular reports on their finances with the FEC. TPM combed through thousands of pages of the reports filed by Santosโ team throughout last year and 2021, which were studded with irregularities and eyebrow-raising expenditures. Santos did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

@RitchieTorres ethics monitors/mentors who have the power to educate and mentor campaign staff to make sure they cannot claim ignorance, monitor advertisers, fine and publicize repeated infractions. It is time for politicians to be worthy of respect in their advertising and promotional materials, speeches, etc.

@RitchieTorres that's great as far as disqualifying them from running but there needs to be a #severePenalty for major #liarsInOffice. #fireThem. Add #illegalDrugUse/ #drugAddiction/ #alcoholism. If they have recovered/ #OnTheWagon, great. Good for them. They can still run/serve. It's the lying about it that's the important part. Rather like a #backgroundCheck. Speaking of which, how about making them pass a #secret or #topSecret level #securityClearance? That would solve many of our problems.
