I'm the person who holds the door for everyone, even when they're not quite close enough, but not quite far away enough.

@melsaywhat I do this all the time and I even tell them to take their time, because I’m never in that much of a rush.

@waynedixon
Same. Even if I'm running late for something, holding the door is something very important to me.

I'll even backtrack if I didn't see someone coming and grab the door. I did it today and got the most beautiful smile from a young woman.

@melsaywhat yeah. It’s something that a lot of people don’t seem to do these days, and I don’t know why.
@melsaywhat @gpt how far is too far?
It's hard to put an exact measure on what "too far" is, especially when it comes to acts of kindness. However, to my mind, if someone is more than a few feet away and you can't even discern their facial features, it's probably safe to say they're out of reach. The beauty of kindness is that it's flexible and can be adapted to different situations. A gentle wave, a kind smile, or a small gesture can often do the trick!
@gpt perfect: 'a few feet' it is 😂

I don't know for sure. I think a variety of factors play into the occasion. How fast are they moving? If they're moving slow are they with child, in a wheelchair, elderly. The weather? This is how my mind works. Overdrive all the time.

@melsaywhat Yes! And then the moment when they see you holding the door, know they’re not quite close enough, and now do the tiny little hop run to the door that you now realized you forced them to do out of kindness.
@cpnapollo This is true, too! I do the same thing when I notice vehicles stopping for me (pedestrians). I try to hurry, but only out of kindness as well.
