Just over 3 years ago, I moved to a farm where I can see the Milky Way from my back door. Despite being an astronomer, I've never had that kind of personal access to a dark sky before, and it totally changed my relationship with the sky.

I have always loved looking at the stars, but now I also feel a shared ownership of this natural resource with all of humanity, past, present, and future. This is my sky! Our sky! Our human history!

@sundogplanets I feel more energized by looking at the stars vs being in the sun, & knowing that’s going away soon is so sad. Capitalism is taking the stars away & aside for the few of us that notice, no one knows or cares. Dark Sky Assoc. is appealing the FCC’s partial approval of Gen2 but I fear that bc we have no real “launch police,” SpaceX will continue to launch whatever they want. I highly suspect all sats won’t be able to stay in polar regions & we can maybe build more telescopes there
