Just another night of rabbit holes...

A #Thoreau entry with the word #Garret (as in a habitable attic living space) had me doing some garret research.

That's when I stumbled on this charming painting by Carl #Spitzweg called "The Poor #Poet" (Der arme Poet) 1839.

@GardenerPodcast Oh I LOVE a good fall down a rabbit hole! Especially if it's a warren that takes me to the oddest places on the Internets!
@ZeNeece
Well, then. We have that in common!
@GardenerPodcast I just wish another thing we had in common was gardening, sigh. Apparently even though I love Nature, I can't grow a damned thing.
@ZeNeece
Well, lucky for you (and me) there are public gardens, parks, etc. Plenty of wild spaces all around...
Truth be told, most days I read/write/talk about gardens more than I garden. But it's still lovely to get out there once the snow is gone in May.
@GardenerPodcast I have a really large yard with a creek that runs along the line of our property, and back up into a small wooded bit along the creek. So I get to be out there. But I would really prefer to have lots more plants than all that damned grass.
But there is a huge beaver in the creek who loves any tree I plant (mostly fruit) (and not the ones that are invasive, of course).
I'm very grateful to have Nature right outside my door at least!
@ZeNeece
It sounds like you are doing great.
I'm a huge fan of mini-orchards and reforesting.
So if you ever want to add more fruit trees or more trees to your woodland, you would be ahead of many gardeners who think #flowers only and forget to think BIG!
Go trees!
@GardenerPodcast Well, I've lived here about 18 years. In that time I've grown an amazing pear tree until just last year. Apparently the Beaver felt it was ripe. It had hundreds of unripe pears on it. One day it was there, the next it was just a stump. I hope he got a lot of good out of it!
Anyway, that was the last tree that I have planted. Now they have all been taken.
I want very much to fill my garden with native plants, but with so many deer and the beaver, I have given up.
@GardenerPodcast Since I can't really grow anything I want due to all the deer and beavers and the like, I thought this year I will just try to cut back the invasives. Maybe then the natives will find their way to my garden.
Maybe if I put up little signs... "Natives wanted. Vacancy."
I am also looking for information on how to harvest seeds and get them to other parts.
I found milkweed pods and I want to get them spread to a better location closer to home!
@GardenerPodcast love it, everything so well paced, love the pilllow and cap, use of light is amazing 😻
