I just learned that a former president of #Brazil came to the US on a visa issued only to heads of state. It was valid when he arrived, but is invalid now that he's no longer in office.

In other words, #JairBolsonaro is currently in the United States irregularly, and should be subject to removal by #immigration authorities.

Update: Turns out it's more complicated, and worse.

"The official, who has experience with the cancellation of visas for former heads of state, said there is no set time limit on how long someone can stay in the United States on an A-1.

'We're in uncharted territory," the official said. "Who knows how long he is going to stay?'"

Pressure mounts on Biden over Bolsonaro's Florida stay after Brasilia riots

The United States has a Jair Bolsonaro problem.

@awgonnerman There's word that #Bolsonaro has reached out to #Italy's new, far rightwing to openly neo-fascist new government for some kind of twisted "political asylum" and more importantly for Italian passports for himself and his family, so he could not get extradited to #Brazil.
Not a lot of courage to be found with this loudmouth - unsurprisingly so.
@awgonnerman my question is: Can we have Donald extradited to the US from Florida? Seems he’s not yet been interrogated by our authorities here for his involvement in the 1/6/21 insurrection.

@awgonnerman

Usually, the visa is just for entry, for instance, you can enter even if your visa expires tomorrow and as long as you comply with your status rules you are ok.

But since his status changed, I think you might be right right.

@FuckElon his status changed. That's the problem.
