Knowing what you know now, if you had to start over from the beginning, What #language do you think should be the first programming language that you should have started learning?

@adipolak Back in 2001: I'd skip Perl and go straight to Java/Ruby combo. I'd be a genius to see Rails coming :)

Right now: I feel like this shouldn't be that controversial but it is (i've had this conversation a few times just last week). The "right" answer is "obviously" JavaScript.

@adipolak I'll go with the obvious answer - Python. It's just ridiculously easy for beginners, has the least amount of footguns, and allows many different avenues of exploration regardless of which type of programming you're doing
