Franz Essl (Uni Vienna) today received the award as “Scientist of the year” from the Austrian Presseclub. Very well deserved.

I attended the successful defense of a Master Student whom I co-supervised with Franz Essl (Uni Vienna). She worked on the changes in leaf trait composition with successional ages in the glacier forefields of #Blaueis #NationalparkBerchtesgaden
It is always good to see students finishing nicely, but sad to say farewell.

This morning #LastGeneration blocked the #Praterstern in #Vienna #Austria, one of the central roundabouts, to call for action against #ClimateChange.

They were supported by c. 40 scientists across several disciplines (also me).

I wish the previous calls for action by scientists and NGOs would have been successful so that such actions would not be necessary. But unfortunately, most governments did not act.

Hence concerned scientists must support actions calling to mitigate climate change.
