I had a truly wonderful first session of Tunnel Goons by Nate Treme/Highland Paranormal Society with @EvlynMoreau running her glorious Doodles land, which she was playtesting for an update & rerelease with @huffa, @ToreNielsen & myself.

I always love the weird & wonderful things that come out of Evlyn's brain & pen, but Doodles Land was an absolute romping, whimsical wonderland of branching quests. Absolutely perfect for Tunnel Goons.

We started in the Wild & were requested to assist bandits in getting their food from a haunted cave. So we set off with Puffy, the mushroom girl with a desire to drink with potentially dangerous results. We met a witch with a history of being nailed to a tree but the fash Surfs who kicked Fletcher out who wanted to use him as a bioweapon & nearly murdered me, the player, giving some helpful exposition...

which they abruptly ended with, "but that's none of my concern, what is, is the entire destruction of your kind" to Fletcher. We had alcohol soup that Ziz had to desperately keep Puffy from drinking, but Wendi decanted a measure of to feed Puffy if things got dicey, with a priest who sent us to find significant stones they could bless.

Wendi's was angry & bad, so she painted angry eyebrows on it & let Puffy to have it as angry pals. We escaped magical vines thanks to Fletcher's strength & hid from the King's Expositionary Guard who mentioned the witch was to be executed for talking back to the king.

Finally, we made it to the cave where Wendi made sure Puffy was armed & within soup-passing range...

as they hid, & left the other two to deal with the ghost. The interaction was surprisingly convivial, save for a few interjections from puffy that prompted Ziz to assert, "DON'T LISTEN TO THE MUSHROOM!" We loaded up on food & begrudgingly, Wendi anyway, to help move the royal wood in the cave and barrels to the graveyard to help the spirits rest.

Back at camp, trying to sort logistics, we left off about to take a trip to see a lumberjack who absolutely, definitely isn't a werewolf.

I absolutely adore playing games with these wonderful people & taking the opportunity to fully lean into the chaos goblin of my orphan, which was a mix of the Artful Dodger, a 50-year-old Cockney plumber, & all playfully selfish, especially as it's not a way I often lean & the tone, setting & group seemed right for it...

6/

I had a lot of fun bemusing everyone with Cockney rhyming slang & generally having a very silly fun time!

I cannot wait for Doodle Lands to be re-released so I can run it for people & absolutely need to play more Tunnel Goons, its hacks, think about making my own & generally talk about how simple, fun & effective a system it is!
