Tesla owners ditch brand over Elon Musk's Twitter antics

Musk's controversial online presence is pushing some Tesla owners to ditch the brand or consider alternatives right when he needs them most.

@DemocracyMatters I think I said this before. The people who are boosting #Musk and his fannying about on Twitter are the same sort of people who do not believe in #climatechange and are unlikely to buy an EV of any sort. The people who are appalled at Musk's activities tend to know climate change is happening, but will now be unlikely to buy a #Tesla.
@Blotreport @DemocracyMatters This needs a paradigm shift - maybe this shouldnt be about the car industry? what about REALLY good public transit? So many of us live and travel within densely populated areas. Tesla is what it has always been: ostentatious consumption
@GeoffMitchell @DemocracyMatters Agreed, but for that to happen, there needs to be the removal of corporate money from politics, which is all about giving the corporations power and them keeping it, by buying politicians. No improvements in public transport will happen before that removal happens.
@GeoffMitchell @Blotreport @DemocracyMatters I am a big transit fan -- rode regularly when I was a city dweller -- but there are places like the sparsely populated rural district where I now live where transit will never be the complete solution (though there *should* be more here). #ElectricVehicles need to be part of the solution, but I don't need a side order of Nazi with my EV.
@GeoffMitchell @Blotreport @DemocracyMatters Well, right now, many people concerned about climate change will be in the market for electric cars with longer range. I've lived in a number of cities, but NYC was the only one I know of where it was really preferable and even easily manageable to not have a car. That said, Teslas+ their chargers had a range advantage 8 years or so ago that they don't have now.
@JohannasGarden @Blotreport @DemocracyMatters interesting point re Tesla`s prior advantage. Hopefully that erodes as more EVs become accessible. Here in Canada EV ownership still indicates a certain amount of privilege. That irks me when eco-responsible behaviour gets offloaded into the domain of `consumer choice` instead of being taken on properly in public policy. ie. good public transit.

#Tesla will become the BlackBerry of EVs. A great early implementer that was out-innovated by better, faster, smarter, and more experienced competitors.

Oh, and Musk is a giant jerk, there’s that too.

Black ex-Tesla worker awarded almost $137 million for racial abuse including being subjected to "N-word"

A jury agreed that Owen Diaz suffered abuse in the electric carmaker's San Francisco Bay area plant, including being subjected to the "N-word." It wasn't the first such suit against Tesla.

@bigheadtales @GeoffMitchell @Blotreport @DemocracyMatters And keep in mind that it was only because this employee was a contractor that he wasn't forced into mandatory arbitration, which somehow the company never loses even though this sort of abuse, the swastika and racial slur graffiti as well as verbal racial abuse, has been reported by many employees.
@JohannasGarden @GeoffMitchell @Blotreport @DemocracyMatters Absolutely right, I admit, I’d forgotten about that horrid treatment of workers.
@nafnlaus Ugh, Chevy Bolt was one I was considering, though last I looked, it seemed like it might not be our first pick.
@GeoffMitchell @Blotreport @DemocracyMatters I agree. What makes them more affordable and practical is 1) charging station infrastructure, which is finally increasing to make longer trips, not just long commutes, feasible, and 2) rebates for purchasing an electric vehicle. There are quite a few >200 mi and a number of >250mi more budget cars on the market.
