Years ago, I wrote an article called “The Psychology of #Twitter” which went viral. I just wrote “The Psychology of #Mastodon: The Great Migration From Twitter” - it’s about how the Fediverse is an immersive learning exercise for society to master decentralized thinking. The Psychology of Mastodon: The Great Migration From Twitter

Welcome to a decentralized social network that promises to replace Twitter.

Psychology Today
@mosesma I like the "decentralization thinking"

I would this play out Moses? What would a business & ecosystem built on this thinking look like?

Isn't it essentially the thinking behind #indieweb?

@mosesma It’s an interesting article, and I think you’re right that decentralisation of the (only relatively recently centralised) internet requires a shift in thinking

A few points:

• Eugen Rochko may have created Mastodon, but his nonprofit organisation doesn’t run Mastodon – that’s somewhat the point of decentralisation

• I don’t see Mastodon as part of the move to ‘Web 3.0’, and I certainly can’t see it being associated with cryptocurrency (promotion of which is banned by many instances’ house rules)

• Journalists aren’t really ‘leading the charge’ to Mastodon – most are only really starting to take note now that a critical mass of people have left Twitter

• Driving at 75 mph is illegal in most countries, and doing anything else while driving at such speeds would be extremely reckless (even or perhaps especially in a self-driving car)

• Many of us outside the US first experienced TV without advertisements!

@mosesma I love the article! One thing that I found curious is that you use "MastOdon" and the incorrect spelling "MastAdon" intermingled. Correcting that misspelling will give the article much more power, I think.
@heinragas thanks so much for catching that! The publisher locks the article but I can request the fix.

@mosesma

I'll read the rest, yet got this far:

"Once you experience Mastodon, you suddenly realize just how much commercial advertising you are force-fed."

.. and wondered why you aren't using an adblocker?

Having used them for the best part of a decade it is an horrid assault on my senses to see the computer screen of anyone who doesn't.
