Lmao, I tried to quote one of my older posts when composed the previous thread. It was a huge surprise for me that quoting is a purely Twitter's feature

Here's an idea for Mastodon quote posts which I don't think would upset any of the people opposed to quoting: allow me to quote just my own posts This would enable one of my key purposes of quoting: it would allow me to create navigation paths between my own content, including letting me reply to someone to point them to something I had previously answered

Mastodon

It's also a relative latecomer to Twitter, but now it is hard to imagine it not being available.

I've got mixed feelings on adding the function here.

@TCadd Why not though?

It is told in post by the link above:

From what I see, the idea of quotes is not popular in the Mastodon community in general. Quoting doesn't look a vital feature for me, but I'm surprised that ppl on oppose it so much 🙂. Curious if it's more about technical difficulty of implementation / usability / idea of the network / something else

@ignytis
On the birdsite it was very easy to use a quote to trigger a dog pile - and it was often used with that effect if not that intention.

I personally liked them overall but I'm a cis-het white male over 40 - pretty much as privileged as I can get without being wealthy - so I don't get piled on easily and shrug it off if I do.

That is not the reality of a lot of people.
