Alphabet practice today, first with walnut ink (very hard to handle) then with scarlet calligraphy ink (better). The Speedball nibs are quite scratchy. Really. Also, realized I am fighting muscle memory. Look at this (next tweet):
This is from the Book of Kells. Look at the shape of the A. Of the C and E, and of the Q. They're all top-heavy. I learned to give them comfortable little pot-bellies, and that just isn't right.
So I'm going to pull out my calligraphy books and see if anyone has advice... and examine what the modern calligraphers are actually doing. Can I ever learn this or do I have to settle for a highly modernized appearance.
No. 3 or 4 of these are aware of the situation but none reproduce the shape comfortably & consistently.
