I'm in that #Genealogy phase where I've just put together a groundbreaking theory after ranting to a friend about random ancestors and now I just need ALL the records RIGHT NOW to prove if it's true or false. I think I've pieced together information that even the 19th Century antiquarians were confused by. And if I'm correct it solves some major questions about my #OnePlaceStudy and my #OneNameStudy. Very excited. Genealogy is great fun.
@GenealCymru I really want to hear more about this! You’ve got the determined mind for genealogy
@ibarnello Thanks :) A bit ranty, but enjoy. I learned recently my 7x Grandma’s name is Sarah. She had 2 sons Jenkin & Evan. In her community, families kinda "own" certain names. Only 1 fam I know of uses those names. They're called the Jonses of Llwynrhys. Early puritans & baptist ministers at the end of the 17th C. Jenkin married into this family & then it’s 1st cousin marriages all the way down. My #OneNameStudy guy, Rev. Timothy Davies, his mother & wife are from that family too. 1/4
@ibarnello So I went looking for records. I found a record saying John Jones of Llwynrhys (Rev. Timothy Davies’ grampie & the farthest I’ve gotten back in that family) had a sister who was the mother of Rev. Philip Pugh, who was Timothy’s co-minister. BUT according to my Rev. Philip Pugh tree, his mother is supposed to be Anne, daughter of David Jones of Coedmore. Jones of Coedmore is the one who no one really knows about. 2/4
@ibarnello So if David Jones is father of Anne & of the Jones of Llwynrhys it starts to explain how Rev. Timothy Davies got the name Timothy (their family & part of my family are the only families in that region that use the name Timothy). Because David Jones of Coedmore had a 1st cousin, Rev. Rees Powell, who had a son named Timothy. Also, Rev. Powell was the founding minister of the chapel Rev. Timothy Davies & Rev. Philip Pugh later coministered at. 3/4
@ibarnello So tonight, I found 8 18th C wills for the Jones family, & it’s just a matter of piecing them together & cautiously adding in some literary evidence. I’m hoping to find that my 7x Grandma, Sarah, is from that family & ultimately I expect this research to break another line ‘s brick wall too. But just building up relationships & context will be great. The more I get, the more leads I can follow. Hopefully that made some sense. 4/4
@ibarnello BONUS: David Jones of Coedmore, I suspect is actually from Coedmawr, which are close pronunciation-wise. And the Jones of Llwynrhys have cousins who lived at Coedmawr. Also he was friends with a family who lived at a farm called Blaene, which is where Rev. Timothy Davies lived some decades later. And the Blaene family had a son, Jacob David who I suspect is the father or some sort of relative of my 8x Grampie named Timothy Jacob. This research is so rich with interconnections. 5/4
@GenealCymru monumental, complicated project. Persevere!
@ibarnello Thanks :D It's a whole lot of fun. At one point I was worried I'd run out of research, but turns out it's ever-expanding!
