It appears this was caused because he was hit in just the right place, which in turn suggests that maybe we need a redesign on those pads players wear.
@tofugolem @DevinPike it is likely less of a padding issue and more a timing issue. Commotio cordis is a known consequence of precisely timed impact. Uncommon when seen in the context of the number of impacts across sports due to timing precision needed.
