You know, there are a lot of things that I love about having a career in the arts. However, the endless need to hustle is not one of them. Just when you feel like you've got things under control a freelance gig evaporates, a new expense materializes, etc. And here you are just wanting to keep doing the thing that made you happy but now you've got to figure out yet another way to monetize it, Or Else. I loathe commodifying art, which is about sharing. And yet you must eat and pay bills.
@AbandonedAmerica hasn’t art always been a compromise between integrity and pragmatism? You could take the Leonardo route and take the cash for commissions then get distracted with your own genius 😜
@robscatray it has but that certainly has not made it any less difficult for people struggling with it generation after generation
@AbandonedAmerica quite and we try to do our little bit supporting local artists. Ireland has been a leading example in this with a recent government bursary offered to a limited number of artists. Wish all counties were as forward thinking
