You know, there are a lot of things that I love about having a career in the arts. However, the endless need to hustle is not one of them. Just when you feel like you've got things under control a freelance gig evaporates, a new expense materializes, etc. And here you are just wanting to keep doing the thing that made you happy but now you've got to figure out yet another way to monetize it, Or Else. I loathe commodifying art, which is about sharing. And yet you must eat and pay bills.
@AbandonedAmerica you’re making me glad i didn’t end up becoming a photographer
@rabcyr sort of wishing I hadn't currently also

@AbandonedAmerica if i had gone into say woodworking, then it’d be more typical self-employed business, not much “hustle” once it gets stable. but yeah arts sounds like more hustle than freelance journalism.

i probably would have gone for a newspaper job for stability. idk. i did enjoy taking photos of sports in high school, when i otherwise didn’t care about the games.

@AbandonedAmerica (and still ever so slightly mad my ex, who was the hs paper editor, left my name off my best picture published!)
@rabcyr oh wow, that's not cool 😡
