$12 billion. That’s the estimated cost of expanding the Child Tax Credit to 19 million children in the lowest-income families in America.

$858 billion dollars. That's the estimated cost of the latest defense bill.

Can you guess which one Congress claims it can't afford to fund?

@rbreich well to be fair Congress literally can’t fund anything ATM, but you make a good point. 😭
@rbreich we could have a military that's armed to the teeth and still make this country a utopia if we were willing to tax the rich.

@killfile @rbreich and that's the point that needs to be made. I am all for scaling back on our military, but if there is one thing that the Ukraine War has illuminated it is that we are currently aiding the take-down of evil at a bargain rate.

We have so much... we just better policy.

@rbreich that level of expenditure in defense is only to protect the rich and the statu quo…
@rbreich Not Congress the GOP claims it can’t afford it.
@rbreich Expanding the Child Tax Credit economically boosts the working poor, mostly Black Americans trapped in low wage jobs due to discrimination and debt peonage. The US government refuses to invest in any financial remediation that improves economic conditions that raises the quality of life for Black Americans.
@rbreich is it true that $658 Billion from the defense bill goes to the defense contractors and the leftovers goes to the defense of the American people?
@rbreich and they think they’re doing the people’s work, they are doing the wealthy peoples work I guess. The ones lining their pockets.
