"why do you support your tax dollars going to subsidized daycare if you don't have kids" because if other people can't afford to have kids the only staff at my nursing home when I'm old will be a pill organizer scotch-taped to a roomba
@VeryBadLlama The user pays argument is so toxic and can be applied to every aspect of civilisation.
@VeryBadLlama or who do you think will buy the product/service you're selling? Other people's children, that's who!

@VeryBadLlama I mean, Japan is having serious conversations about care robots

Your roomba may be pretty close.

The Impact of Robots on Nursing Home Care in Japan

@gatesvp @VeryBadLlama yes. If the trend of deminishing fertility rate that is seen in more countries than we think continues, robots will be wiping bums and dishing out pills to those that can afford them. An interesting excercise is to look up a world population web site. The data showing trends is sobering.
In our own sphere, how many women do you know that choose to be child free. I know at least 7. Taxpayer support of childcare centers is a great start. Maybe we have to go further.
@VeryBadLlama And there'll be an age where I won't be able to bend down to get my hands on that roomba!
@VeryBadLlama
Although to be fair ... a pill organizer taped to a roomba will likely be the only staff willing to deal with me.

@VeryBadLlama

The same reason the people who don't have kids help pay for public schools.

@VeryBadLlama @vaurorapub Also I’m not totally selfish? πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ
@VeryBadLlama don’t say mean things about robo nurse! πŸ™ƒ

@VeryBadLlama

πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜

@VeryBadLlama nurse pillbot will probably be the nicest one.

@VeryBadLlama I don't understand the selfishness of fellow Canadians I've been seeing (or it has been more blatant since COVID). Like they forget they live in Canada where everyone matters and our taxes are for all of us (needs lots of work, not perfect).

I didn't get to use CERB (THANK GOODNESS), I pay property taxes and a portion goes to schools...I have no kids.

I am THANKFUL that this program has started, I know many who this will help.

@VeryBadLlama My vision of dementia care is a repurposed Amazon warehouse in remote North Dakota filled with Matrix inspired pods managed by robots. AIs will populate my cut-rate VR.

No need for human labor.

Flushing sound on pod emptying is the main human touch.

(Narrator: he does not know he’s in the warehouse now.)

@VeryBadLlama some tech bros are already working on it I'm sure
@VeryBadLlama
My answer is something like: β€œBecause lots of childless people subsidized your education, you selfish knob.”
@VeryBadLlama A roomba that brings me drugs sounds like a great innovation that someone should get on right away, if it could bring snacks as well then that'd be utterly fantastic. Don't worry, I would toss it a cheeto/pretzel/whatever manner of snack to nibble on as a reward for its service.
