UnifiedPush: a decentralized, open-source push notification protocol

"A modern Android smartphone relies on a lot of services...
Most of them have open alternatives, but until now, the only option for push notifications was Googleโ€™s proprietary service, Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).
UnifiedPush is a new alternative that allows you to get push notifications without being tied to a single company."

@FreePietje This is also useful for FOSS mobile OSes like #Mobian . Unfortunately the existing implementation don't seem to support federation/clustering/sharding so you are still tied to a single organization or even a single node.

@federico3
Yeah, that's exactly the reason I shared it, either for things like @mobian or G๐Ÿ‘€gle free versions of Android.

There's possibly a long way to go, but I do like the idea.

I saw there is no #Debian package for ntfy, nor could I find it in wnpp.
I looked at that wrt the "self-host the server part" line. I guess if I'm tied to my own single node, that would be fine.
But there's still a lot I don't know about this, but figured it couldn't hurt to raise awareness :-)
