Jessica KantA few months ago, I was walking around campus trying to gather my thoughts before teaching. It had been an especially bad day full of anti-trans harassment and threats, and I was exhausted and feeling hopeless. As I was walking and reading the signs on the buildings, I realized that the SSW is right next to the #PoliticalScience and #History departments. Today I came across this photo of Roslyn and Howard Zinn, and recognized the background immediately— right next to the school of #SocialWork.
I don't feel hopeful much these days, but I've been listening to his lectures every night because whenever I think of Howard Zinn, I think of this quote:
"...And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory."
