@dnsprincess Reminds me of when I worked for a CLEC. The old-school Bell guys we had hired to run the 5ESS switch would follow us young IT kids around and wax-string tie all our cables. It was the cleanest, nicest set of server racks I've had, before or since.

When I worked as a contractor at Lucent documenting their last 5ESS in the late '90s, most of my fellow contractors were old "wire and plier" guys.

I felt bad for them, because I knew that all of that was going to be replaced with IP telephony.

@gaffa @dnsprincess I think we put 5 or 6 5E switches into production from 1999 to 2003. They were 5ESS-2000 VCDX and it always amused me that they had a Sun Sparc system running 3B20 emulation in order to be compatible.
