What's the most used function key on your keyboard regardless of if it is Linux, macOS or Unix/Windows OS?
@nixCraft F1
It's tied to a lookup for table columns on the app I manage. Close second is F2, always renaming defaults.
@nixCraft F5 for sure. yes, i'm a web developer, how did you know?
@nixCraft Space bar. (What, do people actually use those F-keys in the top row?)
@nixCraft F3, since I have a custom keybinding (Alt+F3) to open up a new urxvt instance.
@nixCraft ctrl-F6 I think (rename in JetBrains IDEs).
@nixCraft based on the scratched off paint it's the left cmd. Alternatively, I suck at trimming the thumbnails.
@nixCraft I am always breaking down CTRL (for Emacs) and ESC (for Vim) keys
@nixCraft surprisingly it's F2 for rename in a file manager (both windows and *nix)
@nixCraft "Windows" / Super key. I switch to a different keyboard layout while this key is pressed. In Linux using advanced keyword settings, in Windows using an AHK script.
@nixCraft
Windows: F5
Linux: most of them because I use Midnight Commander (I am a nostalgic of Norton Commander 3.0)
@nixCraft Probably F5, but I regularly also use F12 to summon Yakuake.

@nixCraft F6 In Firefox to select the URL bar. Its way faster that "CTRL + L".

Firefox really needs a way so see all the keyboards shortcuts

@nixCraft CTRL, ESC & ALT
in this order.
Lot of video games and vim 😂
@nixCraft As I'm working a lot on my laptop without a menu key, probably Shift + F10..😅 Apart from that, probably F3/Shift + F3 for search. Maybe F2 to rename.
@nixCraft F12 for yakuake! It is such a reflex now that i do it on windows and mac machines as well and get confused for a moment when nothing happens.
@nixCraft Probably F4, as in alt-F4. I don't spam refresh much.
@nixCraft for me: cmnd(alt) - tab
Fn, probably. Since my keyboard has a mode in which Fn has a key code, it's in use as a modifier key.
@nixCraft F4, with Fn to suspend my laptop.
@nixCraft The F's dunno but the CTRL...holy shit.
@nixCraft F2, cause I always spamming that button when I need to fix my boot entry... 😅
@nixCraft For me I believe it's probably F11.
@nixCraft I don’t have F* keys on my keyboard 🤷🏻‍♂️
@nixCraft F5 : Run SQL Statement/Refresh
@nixCraft and function key its f12
@nixCraft
Space - To turn my keyboard light on.
#ThinkPad
@nixCraft
Function key: F8 (mute mic).
Of all keys: Ctrl-] (Escape, vim user)
@nixCraft either F4 (from alt + F4 to close the window) or F12 that brings yakuake shell out. I realized how little I used F keys when I moved to a programmable keyboard which lacks the fn row.
@nixCraft Windows- F2 for file rename. Linux - F11 for my second keyboard layer.
@nixCraft it's a toss up between F1, F2, F4. To switch from browser to chats to the shell and editor
@nixCraft if only F keys count: F12, for opening the devtools in browsers
@nixCraft ESC (mapped to Caps Lock).
