That's why we're in this mess. The Executive has been granted extraordinary - unitary - powers in the face of 9/11. SCOTUS has been packed. And the legislature is corrupted by Gerrymandering.

If one branch gets corrupted, checks and balances continue to work. But if all three are, the government can coup itself. Which is what they tried.

As we know, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
