If you're open to #middlegradelit #fantasy you might like A Wish in the Dark (Les Mis, but kids in a Thailand with magic)
If you're open to #YA fantasy, books that I've enjoyed in the past year from that genre are Six of Crow (heist) and the Folk of the Air series (fairy politics)
If you're open to classics, Middlemarch and The Woman in White would be right up your alley.
