Evans & Novak wrote about Nixon traveling "coast to coast" during the #1968 campaign with Sen. Edward Brooke of Massachusetts, whom E. & N. described as "the nation's highest-ranking Negro politician" who was "prominently displayed in both Chicago and San Francisco" (sic).

#Nixon, eager to influence black voters, spoke on a Chicago broadcast during that trip, saying "Law and order...is a code word for, basically, racism" and "Law and order must be combined with justice."
