This is insanity! There is more involved in licensing you and the car you drive for obvious reasons!

People Can Now Carry Guns Without A License In Half Of America's States

A remarkably successful effort to make firearms easier to carry has swept across the country over the past 12 years.

@DrSprockets I think you guys a pretty screwed. I cannot imagine living in an environment where people carry loaded weapons thinking it the safer option. Gee… I even remember English policemen and women walking in the streets of London demanding to reject the idea of arming them. Can you see the divide between say Canada and Europe with the USA?
@meb I sure can! But influences from down south are trying hard to turn us into them!
“The neighbor’s house is on fire and the smoke is billowing over the fence!”…
As I like to say.
@DrSprockets don’t let them. At least in Canada we don’t have this delusional idea that carrying firearms is a god given right.
@meb @DrSprockets I guess you should be careful in Switzerland then: Firearms regulation in Switzerland allows the acquisition of semi-automatic, and – with a may-issue permit – fully automatic firearms, by Swiss citizens and foreigners with or without permanent residence.
The laws pertaining to the acquisition of firearms in Switzerland are amongst the most liberal in the world!!
Heck, in the US we can’t even own Fully Automatic firearms…
@Computeforloot @DrSprockets I’m not suggesting that Switzerland has strict enough gun control laws, but I don’t know that automatic weapons are allowed. AFAIK a background check is required in all cases, as well as a safety course/check. Carrying weapons in public is heavily regulated as well, and rules also apply in the way weapons are to be stored and transported. I say all this but I don’t know first hand since I’ve only fired a gun once in my life and don’t own one.
@Computeforloot @DrSprockets and there’s now a debate in France to forbid drinking and hunting. Don’t know why it’s a debate, but I think the firearm and hunting world is under pressure to rethink its activities. Good thing.
@meb @DrSprockets here’s an interesting article that shows how the Swiss do it right::

Switzerland gun laws: Why the country has fewer gun deaths than the US

Here's what the US can learn from Switzerland, which has nearly eliminated mass shootings while maintaining a high rate of gun ownership.

@Computeforloot @meb You’re right! It is a very interesting read!… A very different mindset of societal responsibility and behaviour than the US!
@DrSprockets @meb that’s exactly like it was when I was a kid, here in the US

Being a buttinsky...

If I remember correctly, aren't *ALL* Swiss citizens of age part of the military, with training? This would explain, in part, Switzerland's stance on private weapons.

I could very well be mistaken, this is stuff I heard decades ago.

@BlippyTheWonderSlug @Computeforloot @DrSprockets I immigrated in Switzerland 19 years ago and will apply for citizenship this year. I’m passed the age of the military service. My boys are concern and the eldest just turned 18. Anyway, yes men are expected to do the military service, unless they do the civil service or find a way out/around. They are issued a weapon, which they keep into the age of something like 36. They have to train once a year. 1/2
@BlippyTheWonderSlug @Computeforloot @DrSprockets funny thing is they are given a set of bullets in a sealed can that they have to bring at the practice range. Apparently showing up with a broken seal is a really bad idea. So yes there are a lot of semi automatic weapons in Switzerland, but their usage is rather specific and restricted.
